This country study should provide a clear and concise picture of the industry, labour law, labour conditions and industrial relations within the textile/garment industry. The study is prepared through gathering information about national laws and local stakeholders’ view on labour issues in the garment industry in Myanmar. Chapter 2, General country information, describes the economic, social, political, and governance situation as well as the general human rights situation, using international indicators and comparing the country tother garment producing countries. Chapter 3, Stakeholders, briefly presents the main stakeholders that are active in the garment/textile industry. The focus is on stakeholders which have an actual impact on labour conditions or play an active role in monitoring the situation for workers in the industry. This chapter serves as a reference point for stakeholders and brands that want tengage with or consult a local stakeholder tfind further information or help concerning their activities in Myanmar. Chapter 4, Garment industry, presents an overview of the situation for the garment industry in Myanmar, areas of production, products and prospects for the industry. Chapter 5, Industrial relations, describes the trade union situation in the country, both in general and specifically for the garment industry. This chapter gives important information for understanding how well challenges regarding working conditions could be handled through the country’s social dialogue, and how they currently are. In Chapter 6, Implementation of the FWF Code of Labour Practices, the implementation of every standard of the FWF Code of Labour Practices is assessed through official statistics on compliance (where available), laws and regulations, as well as different stakeholders views on implementation. Auditors and brands can use this section as a reference resource for their monitoring activities.

Mit dem neuen Produkttest untersuchte die Umweltschutzorganisation Greenpeace Outdoor-Ausrüstung auf schädliche per- und polyfluorierte Chemikalien (PFC). PFC werden in vielen industriellen Verfahren und Konsumgütern eingesetzt. Die Outdoor-Industrie verwendet sie bei der Herstellung wasserdichter Membranen und wasser- sowie schmutzabweisender Beschichtung. Darunter auch umwelt- und gesundheitsschädliche Substanzen, die sich global ausbreiten und in der Leber von Eisbären genauso zu finden sind wie in Muttermilch und menschlichem Blut. Greenpeace untersuchte neben Outdoor-Bekleidung und –Schuhen erstmalig Camping- und Wanderausrüstung wie Rucksäcke, Zelte und Schlafsäcke. Von 40 getesteten Produkten enthielten lediglich vier keine PFC.

In this latest investigation Greenpeace tested a range of outdoor gear for hazardous per- and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs). The study reveals that not only outdoor clothing and footwear but also camping and hiking equipment such as backpacks, tents and sleeping bags contain chemicals that are hazardous to the environment and to human health. This follows an analysis conducted on items produced and sold by various outdoor brands, selected for testing by outdoor enthusiasts and Greenpeace supporters. Out of the 40 products that were tested, only four were found to be free from the per- and polyfluorinated chemicals that were investigated, to the detection levels used.

In einer neuen Untersuchung hat Greenpeace in Geschäften, die Kleidung und Outdoor-Ausrüstung mit per- und polyfluorierten Chemikalien (PFC) verkaufen, die Raumluft untersucht. In europäischen Flagship-Stores der Marken Mammut, The North Face, Norrona und Haglöfs wurden im Vergleich zur Luft in Büro- und Lagerräumen 20- bis 60-fach höhere PFC-Konzentrationen gemessen. Im Vergleich
zur Außenluft liegen die in Outdoor-Fachgeschäften gemessenen Konzentrationen etwa 1000-fach höher. Die in der Innenraumluft von Outdoor-Stores gefundenen volatilen polyfluorierten Telomer-Alkohole und Acrylate können in der Umwelt oder nach Aufnahme in den Körper unter anderem zu den gesundheitlich bedenklichen Perfluorcarbonsäuren wie PFHxA und PFOA abgebaut werden. PFOA ist eine Chemikalie mit besonders gefährlichen Eigenschaften. Sie ist unter REACH als besonders bedenkliche Substanz eingestuft und reguliert (SVHC).
